John was born in Penrhiwceiber, Wales to Timothy Foley and Hanorah 'Norah' Sullivan Foley. Birthplace given on a 1921 passenger list when he came to the US with his sister, Julia - can be seen on Ancestry.com

John P. Foley, 66, a former St Regis resident, died in Sierra Vista, Arizona Wednesday after a long illness.

Mr. Foley was born in southern Wales on June 1, 1909 and moved to the United States in 1935. He worked for the Phelps Dodge Mining Company in Arizona for 35 years and retired in 1973. Mr. Foley's wife, Sarah, died in December 1962.

Survivors include a son, John, Missoula; four daughters, Frances Welch, Bend Oregon; Mary Peterson, Anaconda, Montana; Joanne Villado, San Simon, Arizona and Julia Chapple, Muskegee, Oklahoma; a brother, Timothy Francis, Susanville, California; two sisters, Florence Saunders, Tuscon, Arizona and Noni Harrt, Sun Valley, California and nine grandchildren.

John came to the United States in 1918. He came to Montana from Arizona where he worked for the Phelps Dodge Mining Co. He was state inspector for the horticultural station from 1954 until 1963. He returned to Arizona taking a similar position until retirement in 1973
