Born in Austria, he became a Chicago pro wrestling World Heavyweight Champion in 1949, for his trademark move, the "spinning toe hold". During wrestling's first "golden age" in the 1940s and '50s, he was popular for battled stars Gorgeous George and the Mad Russian. He died at his home in Tucson, Arizona, following a severe stroke.
