She was born November 16, 1925 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Rev Harry and Ella May Nelson. Cheerfully coping with health challenges since birth, Betty has resided at Oakridge Homes facilities in Grand Rapids since 1994. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids and also participated in many craft projects at the YMCA.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and also stepfather Bruce Erskine, and brother-in-law Dick Ellsworth. Survivors include sisters, Nancy Ellsworth and Mary Frances (Bill) Bottoms, both of Grand Rapids, two nieces, and eight nephews.
Memorial service and inurnment in the church columbarium will begin at 2:30 PM Sunday, November 1 at Christ Episcopal Church, Grand Rapids. Rev. Sally Cummings and Rev Ken Toven will officiate. Refreshments will follow in the parish hall afterwards.
