Dr. Firman E Bear of New Brunswick, New Jersey, internationally known expert of soil and water conservation and soil chemistry collapsed on the street and died from a heart attack at New Brunswick, Saturday, April 6. Dr. Bear was born just west of Germantown on May 21, 1884. He was married to Helen Judy, also a Germantown native and sister to Sam Judy of Germantown. He was a graduate of Germantown High School, Class of 1902 and attended Ohio State University where he received both this bachelor and masters degrees in science. He Ph.D. was attained from the University of Wisconsin. Traveling and lecturing in Europe, South America and the United States, Mr. Bear also spent a year in Paris. Author of five books on soil conservation, principal author of 28 research papers on soil and plants and was the associate author of 50 others.

Survivors are his wife, Helen Judy Bear; two sons, Firman E. Bear of Alexandria, Va and Co. Robert J. Bear of Auburn, Al; two brothers, Harris V Bear of Germantown and Capt Herbert S. Bear of Santa Barbara, Ca and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted in New Brunswick on April 9. The body was cremated and burial is expected to take place about June 12 in Germantown Cemetery, Germantown, Oh.
