The Mercian Regiment
He was deployed as part of a Police Advisory Team with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Pte Alex Isaac died alongside CSgt Martyn Horton, LCpl David Ramsden and Pte Douglas Halliday in a night-time vehicle accident near Gereshk, Helmand province. Their Ridgeback armoured vehicle left the road and rolled into the Nahr-e Bughra canal as they were travelling to attend an incident at a nearby police check point. Army divers launched a rescue operation but they were unable to save their comrades trapped inside.
Aged 20, from Wirral, Merseyside. Pte Isaac completed infantry training in May 2008 and served in the United Kingdom and Kenya, in Falkland Islands and Kenya for training exercises and on operations in Afghanistan. A big, gregarious man who always wore a ready smile, he could always be relied upon in any situation.
Pte Isaac leaves behind his partner Megan Anyon, his parents Annette and John, brothers Chris and Robert, grandmothers Elizabeth and Vera, other family members and many friends.
