Funeral services for Cecil David Wilkes, 73, are scheduled for Sunday at 2 p m at Springdale Baptist Church Rev. Mike Davis and Rev. Sonny Wilkes will officiate and burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Mr Wilkes died Friday
A lifelong resident of Laurens County. Mr Wilkes was the son of the late Gordon Wilkes and the late Leha McLendon Wilkes He was a decorated hero of World War II and was a prisoner of war after being captured by German forces at Anzio Beach in Italy. Mr Wilkes served under General Mark Clark in the First Infantry Division of the U.S Army He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other military decorations.
Mr. Wilkes was a deacon and former Sunday School Teacher at Springdale Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of J P Stevens and was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Willena B. Wilkes of Dublin, three sons. David Wilkes of St Mary's, Mike Wilkes of Milledgeville and Jeffrey Wilkes of Dublin, a sister,
Essie Hilbun of Dublin.
In leiu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Springdale Baptist Church Building
Fund, Dublin, Ga.
The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral
tonight from 7 p.m to 8:30 pm
