She was born December 24, 1949, to L. Garvey and Madeline F. Coe of Mechanicsburg. Bonnie was raised in Mechanicsburg and attended Tri City Schools, graduating in 1968 from Tri City High School. She then attended merchandising school in Chicago and later returned to Springfield, working at Myers Brothers Department Store, The Learning Nook, and in 1982 began a career with the Illinois Department of Revenue where she worked until becoming disabled in 2005.
Bonnie's hobbies were sewing and her cats. After becoming disabled and homebound, she continued her love of sewing by making clothes for children and donating them to local churches and foreign orphanages. She was a member of the Christian Church and the Springfield Chapter of the American Sewing Guild.
She is survived by a brother, Richard L. Coe (wife, Janet) of Mechanicsburg; a niece, Julie Shelby (husband, Mark) of Sherman; a nephew, Jason Coe (wife, Pam) of Illiopolis; a great-niece, Ashley Reed of Sherman; and two great-nephews, Eric Reed of Sherman and Eston Coe of Illiopolis. She is also survived by an aunt, Viola Riley of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and several cousins.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, with Reverend Jack Shelby officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mechanicsburg Cemetery Association Fund Drive, c/o Bobbie Sexton, 11209 Heather Drive, Dawson, Illinois 62520.
