Dorothy J. Anderson, 84, resident of Bow, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at Skagit Valley Hospital, with her family by her side.
Born October 30, 1925 at Medical Lake, Washington, she was a daughter of Gustav H. & Clara (Krahn) Nieman. She was raised and educated in Walla Walla where she graduated from high school.
She continued her education at Pacific Lutheran University where she received her Bachelor's Degree and had also attented Bellevue Community College.
On July 7, 1946, she married Gustaf Anderson in Walla Walla. They made their home in Spokane and on Mercer Island.
In 1972, they bought Anderson Blueberry Farm in Bow from Gustaf's brother. She has lived and worked there ever since.
Her life centered on being a very active member of the Edison Lutheran Church, participating in the Altar Guild, Church Choir, and Sunday School.
Her other interests and activities included quilting, needlepoint, making banners for church functions, Skagit Island coordinator for Reach to Recovery for breast cancer survivors, past president of the North American Blueberry Council, and, past secretary of the Washington Blueberry Commission.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Gerald Anderson of Bow, Donald & Linda Anderson of Everson, Richard & Krista Anderson of Mount Vernon, David & Catherine Anderson of Issaquah; one brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Pat Nieman of Friday Harbor; four sisters-in-law, Stella Nieman of Bellevue, Jean Anderson of Seattle, Selma Bergstrom of Stanwood, and, Anna Hoiland of Tacoma; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gustaf; her brother, Richard Nieman; and one grandchild, Kevin Anderson.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Bow Cemetery under the direction of Hulbush Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at a later date at Edison Lutheran Church.
