C.A. Case is in receipt of a letter from Miss Madeline Strong, living at Malakoff, near Paris, France, thanking him for his kindness during the death and burial of her father Dr. Daniel B. Strong, who died in Colville in June. The family in France consists of the widow, a son and a daughter, none of whom have ever been in the United states.


Dr. Daniel B. Strong, a well known mining man and promoter, died at the Colville sanitarium June 11 from Brights' disease, after an illness of several months. he leaves a wife in Seattle, and a sister in Pennsylvania, and the body has been awaiting instructions as to burial. Dr. Strong was a man of varied and exceptional attainments, and the 68 years of his life were filled with stirring events. he was a native of New England, a graduate of Yale, and for many years was engaged in the practice of medicine and in journalistic work, in various parts of the world. He had held counsel with the Czar of Russia, and with the Pope at Rome, and since coming to Stevens county received a telegram from the pope. he was in the siege of Paris, and lived for some time in France. He was intensely interested in economic and governmental questions, and was an intimate friends of Sulzer of New York. His correspondents included such men as Taft, Roosevelt, Root and prominent European statesmen. Many of these letters were of an intimate nature, and times containing the personal regards of the wife of the writer. he had been a very wealthy man at one time, but death found him penniless.
The funeral service will beheld at the undertaking parlors Monday at 11 am. Rev. L. Garver officiating. Burial will be in Colville.
