August C. Leer, 83, died Monday evening in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Parkston, S. D., he moved to N.D. with his parents in 1900.
He attended Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, N.D. before moving to Lincoln Valley, N.D. where he married.
In 1924, he came to Lodi and returned to N.D. in 1928. He again returned to Lodi in 1935. He resided in Stockton from 1947 until 1957 where he managed a motel. He did custom grain harvesting in the San Joaquin Valley before he retired in 1976.
Mr. Leer also resided in Chowchilla a short time.
He was a member of the Fairmont SDA Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Leer, of Lodi; two daughters; Nadine Steele of Gillette, Wyoming and Virginia Shaw, of Cupertino; one son: Verlin Leer, of Weimar; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers: Albert Leer, of Oroville, Joseph Leer, of Anchorage, Ala., and Valentine Leer, of Yucaipa; two sisters: Martha Baker, of Gridley and Ruth Pribe, of Yountville.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Lodi Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Sorensen of Fairmont SDA Church officiating. Burial will be at Cherokee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Lodi Funeral Home after 4 p.m. today.
