Obituary: John Mills, 71, of Pineville, passed away on January 15, 1995, in the Pineville Community Hospital Extended Care Unit. He was born in Knox County on august 14, 1923, the son of the late Robert and Dora (Swanson) Mills. He was the nephew of the late Judge Bradley and Mammie Mills of Pineville, with whom he resided from an early age along with Mildred Broghton Kenchen, Burnswick, Ga., and the late Margaret B. Howard. He served three and on-half years in World War II with the 25 803 072 Technician Fifth Grade 299th Company 518th Part Battalion and landed during the invasion on Normandy Beach on D-Day. He was honorably discharged on February 3, 1946 at the separation center at Camp Atterbury, In. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pineville and served as the Chariman of the Board of Deacons for many years. He taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School Department Director and had served on various committees of the church. Mr. Mills had been a county magistrate for the City District for two, four year terms. He was self-employed in the coal business, had been the manager of his uncle`s grocery, Bradley`s Cash Store, and had been in the cattle business until the time of his illness. He had been a member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels. Survivors include: his wife, Pualine Bingham Mills, Pineville; one son, John Bradley Mills and daughter-in-law, Vicki Doolin Mills, Richmond; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Mills Moser and son-in-law, William Bryan Moser of Clarksville, Tn.; one grandson, John Robert Moser, Clarksville; two sisters, Kathleen Mills New, East Detroit., and Rosalee Mills Carpenter, North Baltimore, Ohio. Services were Wednesday, Jan 18, 1995 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Tracy and Rev. Charles F. Jones with an eulogy by his brother-in-law, Hershel E. Beck of Louisville, Ky. Music was his favorite songs by his niece-in-law, Janet Puline Hord, Louisville. Burial was in the Bingham Cemetery, at Flat Lick. Casketbearers were Otis Hoskins, John Slusher, Jim Stewart III, Ronnie Redmond, Dicky Jackson, South Bevins, Hanley Gray, Jr., and Tommy Winkler, Jr. Honorary casketbearers were Dr. Talmadge V. Hays, Dr. Renfro Baird, Jr., Dr. Virgil Slusher, Fred Davis, Jay Howard, Bob Buckman, Ford Wilson, Tom Winkler, J.B. Alderson, Dexter Lester, Clell Bingham, Pual Lee, Steve Napier and the deacons of the First Baptist Church of Pineville. Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, was in charge of arrangements.
