Alfred Luther Brown never married.
A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina is name in honor and memory of Alfred Luther Brown.
A.L. Brown died in a car accident, driving into the lake in front of the Old Cannon Mills Office Building.
"As a youth, Luther became interested in textile work, and connected himself with Cannon Mills of Concord, where he spent his entire life. He was still actively at work in his 80th year when his automobile plunged into a lake in front of the main office of Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, and he was drowned before rescuers could get him out.
During his lifetime he was apotent factor in bringing the small manufacturing plant of the late 1880's to the giant plant of the 1950's, which manufactured more towels than any manufacturer in the world, employing more than 20,000 workers. In the company he was the vice president in charge of operations of the shole chain of more than a dozen plants. Among his associates he was known as "Mr. A.L." In appreciation of his service to the community, the city of Kannapolis takes pride in it A.L. Brown High School, which ranks with the best.
Mr. A.L. apparently was too busy to take a wife, although he was admired by many young ladies, and enjoyed their company. His chief hobby, however, was his Clear Springs Dairy Farm, a few miles south of Concord, which boasted one of the finest Guernsey herds that could be found. His entries in all cattle shows earned for Clear Springs a collection of blue ribbons that was the envy of countless breeders. Since his death the dairy farm has been discontinued.
Following in his parents' footsteps, he was an active member and a liberal contributor to St. James Lutheran Church, of Concord, and was most active in his handling of the building campaign to build a new edifice in the 1920's."
