| Birth: | Nov. 16, 1901 | | Death: | May 15, 1970 |  Aviation Pioneer. Born in Greenville, Texas, while in high school he built an experimental airplane. In 1924, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, earned awards in air races and became a U.S. Army flight Instructor. After his time in the service, he began a career with the Aeronautics Branch of the US Department of Commerce and was stationed at Southwest Regional Headquarters in Fort Worth for 25 years. He was instrumental in marking domestic flight routes, developing weather communication broadcast techniques, establishing standards for airplane maintenance inspections and recommending air facility safety modifications. During World War II, he was regional manager of the US Civil Aviation System. In 1953, he received awards for exceptional service and impact on international aviation. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
