Rufus Bearden married Miss Nannie Smith on 12 December 1896 at Alvord, Texas. She preceded him in death. The couple moved from Alvord to Sulphur, Oklahoma. In 1917, they moved to Olney.

Rufus Erskine “R. E.” Bearden, Sr, 77, was a retired farmer. He had made his home in Olney with a daughter, Mrs. J.H. Duncan until they moved to Mankins several months ago. Mr. Bearden was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survived by three sons - O.T. Bearden, A.D. Bearden, R.E. Bearden, Jr; three daughters - Mrs. J.H. Duncan, Mrs. Ed Weichman, Mrs. Flo Hausler; two brothers - Pleasant Bearden and Earl Bearden; two sisters - Mrs. Zula Claiborne and Mrs. P.S. Claiborne; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
