BARNETT, Dwight William 79, of Bellbrook passed away June 13, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 28, 1931 in Trotwood, Ohio to Claude and Hattie Barnett. After graduating from Bellbrook High School, he started college and then enlisted in the Army and was sent to Korea where he was chief blood officer at the 6th Army Depot. After the Korean War, he completed both his Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Dayton. His career spanned both the private and public sector including real estate development and Regional Director for the State of Ohio Department of Urban Affairs. He served as Chairman of the Greene County Republican Party, City Manager of Moraine and finished he career as an educator. Dwight also served as commander of American Legion Post #761, was on the Sugarcreek Local School Board, taught Sunday school and served as youth leader at his church and coached many youth baseball teams. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louise, his daughters: Joy Manning (Denny), Julie Janning (Doug), Jenny Murphy (Chet), Jana Campbell (Tom) and his son Dwight Barnett Jr. (Anne). Ten grandchildren: Jackie, Jason, Alyssa, Michael, Krista, Tommy, Lauren, Lucas, Matthew and Hannah and one great grandchild, Wyatt. His is also survived by two brothers, Wilber and Jack and several nieces and nephews. In order to help his fellow man, Dwight donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program of Wright State University School of Medicine. His hope was to help with the ongoing battle against cancer. If desired, donations may be made to the Dayton VA Medical Center, the Wright State Anatomical Gift Program or the American Cancer Society. Dwight will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends whose lives he touched so deeply. A memorial service will be held at a later date. We would like to give our sincere thanks to all the Dayton VA Medical Center staff. Your excellent care was so much appreciated by Dwight and his family.
