One of Oldest Residents Passes Away
On Sunday, Nov. 10, there passed from this life, in the 86th year of her age, Mrs. Julia Ann Luce, beloved wife of B.F. Luce, and her spirit is now with the redeemer.
It will be remembered that in our issue of week before last, mention was made of the celebration of the 66th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Luce, and that a large number of friends called to pay their respects to the worthy couple.
The next day Mrs. Luce was taken seriously ill with the ailment from which she suffered for years, viz: asthma, and she passed away on the 10th Inst., as above stated.
The deceased was born in New York State, Feb. 12, 1827, and was married to Mr. Luce on October 29, 1846, the couple having lived together continuously for 66 years. Mrs. Luce was an unusually lovable christian character, and always found pleasure in doing deeds of kindness for others. As the aged woman lay in her coffin, one could almost imagine that she was sleeping peacefully, and that her spirit had not gone to its long home.
The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the m.E. church, Rev. Z.T. Fahs preaching the funeral sermon. Interment was in Odd Fellows cemetery just south of town, a large number of friends of the family having turned out to pay their respects to the deceased.
