| Birth: | Jan. 7, 1862 Kanawha County West Virginia, USA | | Death: | Dec. 7, 1943 Grady County Oklahoma, USA | Records indicate that he said his parents names were John and Catherine Holmes and that they were both born in West Virginia. Since West Virginia didn't become a state until they broke away from the Confederacy during the Civil War, they were actually born in Virgina. It is believed that WF and his parents were all born in the (what is now) Charleston, West Virginia area.
WF left home at about age 12, hitching rides with wagon trains that were moving west. He did odd jobs for the other travelers to earn his way and stopped in Oklahoma because he was tired of traveling. He went to work for his future Father-in-law, Theodore Fitzpatrick on his ranch land. It is uncertain how old WF was by this time.
While working for Theodore, he met and married Mary Elizabeth Fitzpatrick. They were the parents of 8 children:Silas, Elmira, Mariah, Willie May, John, James F., William P. and Annie.
Both WF and Mary E. lived the rest of their lives in the Chickasha, Oklahoma area.
