Donald Barker Sr., 76, Edinburgh

Donald Ray Barker Sr., 76, Edinburgh, died at 4:27 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Barker served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and retired in 1999 after 40 years of service at Golden Castings, where he was a towmoter driver. He was a member of Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and sitting on the patio watching the birds.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at Edinburgh Apostolic Church, 701 S. Main St., Edinburgh, with the Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Calling will be at the church from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh with military graveside rites conducted by U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

Arrangements were made by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.

Born in Adair County, Ky., April 8, 1934, Mr. Barker was the son of Arthur L. and Ollie May Burton Barker. He married Ruby J. Feese on July 19, 1958.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Barker Jr. of Edinburgh; daughters, Shirley (Allan) Denton of Franklin, Marilyn Barker of Greenwood, Lana (David) Brown of Nineveh and Talisa (James) Myers of Columbus; a stepson, Steve Smith of Indianapolis; brothers, Orlie Barker of Pensacola, Fla., Calvin and Johnnie Barker of Edinburgh and Marvin Barker of McEwen, Tenn.; a sister, Sally Barker of McMinnville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arlon and Verlon Barker; sisters, Delcie Branigin, Verda Lovette, Velma Keller and Kathy King; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Perry.
