Mr. Johnson died Monday morning, Aug. 18, in Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
A son of Carl and Verna Chesley Johnson, he was born Dec. 19, 1929, in New Windsor. He attended rural Viola grade schools and the former Viola High School.
On Nov. 5, 1955, he married Bernadine Ellen Friel in Monmouth. Mr. Johnson retired last year after serving 23 years with the Army. He had been stationed in Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Japan, plus several locations in the U.S.
At the time of his death, he was employed at the Galesburg Post Office. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg.
Surviving are the widow; three sons, Randy at Shaw AFB, S.C., and Michael and Jay, both at home; three daughters, Elizabeth, Sheryl and Kathy, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Verna Johnson of rural Viola; two brothers, Beauford of Oquawka, and Larry of rural Viola, and two sisters, Mrs. Paul Nelson, Moline, and Mrs. Lawrence Dusenberry of Commerce City, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.
