Services have been held for Joseph Charles Ash of Eugene, who died Jan. 17 of age-related causes. He was 85.
Ash was born March 28, 1916, in Rock Island, Ill., to Julius and Bessie Slotnikoff Ash.
He married Trude Ash in Detroit, Mich., on Aug. 18, 1940.
He graduated from high school and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a co-owner of Berg & Ash Tool Supply in Los Angeles.
Ash and his wife were both accomplished English ballroom dancers.
His interests included black and white photography. His friends will remember Ash for his sense of humor Noun 1. sense of humor - the trait of appreciating (and being able to express) the humorous; "she didn't appreciate my humor"; "you can't survive in the army without a sense of humor"
sense of humour, humor, humour and love of people.
He and his wife moved to Eugene in 1995, where they became members of Temple Beth Israel.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Yona Ash of Eugene, Shereen Gonzalez of Los Angeles and Jennice Bourdase of Fresno, Calif.; a son, Hiram Ash of Los Angeles; two brothers, Phil and Simon, both of Michigan; a sister, Lillian Gross of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
