Jewell Aebi Davis

Former Portland restaurateur Jewell Aebi Davis died of cancer Sunday in a Kirkland, Washington hospital. She was 70. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirkland. Interment will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland.

Mrs. Davis and her husband Ernest Aebi owned L'Abbe restaurants in the Roosevelt, Imperial and Mallory hotels in Portland and in The Dorchester House at Oceanlake for about 25 years, beginning in the 1930s.

After her husband died in 1962, she continued to operate Chalet L'Abbe in Milwaukie until 1974.

She then moved to Kirkland and for the last 10 years operated three antique shops in Washington. She married Bruce Davis in 1979.

She was born in Woodland, Washington.

She was a member of the Past Presidents of Fifty-fifty Clubs of Oregon, the Oregon Restaurant Association and the Washington Antique Association.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Ernest Aebi of Portland, Fred Aebi of Portland and Ken Aebi of Milwaukie; brother Darrel P. Tarter of Lake Oswego; sister Annabell Drum of Milwaukie; mother, Winnifred Lyle Lewis of Oregon City; and seven grandchildren.

The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to Oregon Health Sciences University research.
