Wilford Owens, a prominent farmer of the Clam Falls neighborhood, was found dead in the barn on his farm last Friday morning with a .22 rifle beside him. He had been in poor health for some time. Funeral services were held at the Lorain M. E. church on Monday afternoon at two o'clock, the pastor of the church officiating. Interment was in the cemetery of that church. Among those from afar in attendance were John and Theodore Witten of Toulon, Il, brother of Mrs. Owens, Wayne Witten of Peoria, Il., a nephew; Mrs. Sam Duncan of Peoria, Mrs. Ralph Baird and son James and Kay owens of Elmwood, Il, sisters and brother of Mr. Owens, Mr. & Mrs. Dunlap of McComb, Il., Mr. & Mrs. Sherman Carlson of New Richmond, Wis., and Mr. & Mrs. Carl Hunter of Wilson, Wi.
The deceased was born in Knox County on Jan 15, 1877. There he married Grace Witten in 1913. The same year they settled on the farm near Clam Falls, which since been their home. He is survived by his wife and two children, Harold and Lilah.
Mr. Owens was a man of intergrity and industry who made a host of friends not only in the community where he resided but here in Cumberland as well, as he often came here to transact business. A very large number of friends were in attendance at the funeral, testfying to the esteem in which the deceased was held.
