"Cornelius Honaker, M.D., was born in Bath county, Kentucky, October 11, 1831. He is the son of Charles Wesley Honaker, a native of Virginia and Sarah (England) Honaker. His father was a Judge of Carter County, Kentucky. His boyhood and youth were spent in Carter County, Kentucky, where he obtained a common school education. He studied medicine with Dr. W. England and Samuel Ellis of Lewis county, Kentucky. He took a first course in the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati in 1859 and 1860. He came to Nile township, Scioto County, Ohio in 1861. He attended a second course in the Ohio Medical College in 1883 and 1884 and graduated on March 7, 1884. He has been a farmer and practiced medicine in Nile township ever since 1885. He was married June 8, 1863 to Emily J. Storer. They have two children, Morris Simpson, killed in a wreck on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in 1890 and Lucy, wife of A. King Veazey. He was a democrat before the war, a republican in 1864 and until 1876, when he became a democrat, but he voted for McKinley in 1896. He is a member of the M.E. Church and for ten years was a class leader and Sunday school superintendent. He is a very excellent citizen and is so esteemed in his own community."

Cornelius W. Honaker was the son of Charles Wesley Honaker and Sarah P. England (they are buried on the Wilson farm, near Quincy, Lewis County, KY). He was the grandson of Peter Honaker (Revolutionary War Military Memorial stone in Bailey Cem., Bath Co., KY) and Mary Musick and the great grandson of immigrant Hans Jacob Honaker (buried Honaker Cem., Pulaski Co., VA) and Maria Goetz of Zollikon, Zurich, Switzerland.
His mother, Sarah P. England was the daughter of Jesse Hodges England and Hannah S. Mershon (both buried Lindsey Chapel, Carter Co., KY) and grandaughter of Nathaniel Mershon (Revolutionary War service as a purchasing agent under a Quartermaster, received pay for service in a State of Virginia cavalry unit from Aug 5, 1779 to Nov 18, 1780) and Martha Stevens of Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., NJ.
Jesse Hodges England was the son of David England and Lucy Hodges of Goochland Co., VA.
