RIPLEY, N.Y. — Katheryn E. Houser, 83, of West Main Street, Ripley, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at her home. She was born in Sarah Furnace, Oct. 5, 1917, daughter of the late George and Annie Clea Weaver Burt.
Houser worked in the 1960s at the Sunshine Plant in North East and worked for various farmers in the Ripley area. She loved puzzle books and sitting and looking out the window. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Houser, in 1963. They were married on Feb. 12, 1944. She was also preceded in death by a son, Samuel W. Houser; two daughters, Nancy Lee Houser and Linda Burt; a brother, Jack Burt; a sister, Bessie Mong; a great-grandson; and two great-granddaughters. Houser is survived by two sons, Ronald Houser of Westfield, N.Y., and Robert Burt of Rimersburg; four daughters, Ann Peirson of Woodbury, N.J., Patricia Markley of North East, Lois Miller of Riverside, Texas, and Dorothy Boudoin of Jamestown, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Burt and Jenny Weaver, both of Rimersburg; 22 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main St., Ripley, Wednesday from noon until the time of service there at 1 p.m. The Rev. Sue Kaiser will officiate. Burial will be private at the Quincy Cemetery, Ripley. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main St., Ripley, N.Y., 14775; or to the charity of one's choice.
