Max Kolmes was a very intelligent man who was extremely well read. He had an extensive library of books in his home, and was familiar with the contents of every one of them. It is said of him, that he could explain everything from atomic energy to light wave lengths. He was a fascinating man, and would teach "practical physics" to some of the Milan High school kids. He did this in a "shop" which was located in his own home.
Max died at age 68 in Gibson County, Tennessee. He is buried next to his wife, Selma Kolmes.
