Phebe Ann Clink Chaplin, was the daughter of John Clink and Catherine Brown Clink. Phebe was born November 15, 1846, in Saltfleet Township, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada. The family moved to Michigan around 1865. Phebe became the second wife of Harvey S. Chaplin on Dec. 4, 1867 in Fremont Twp., Tuscola County, Mich. They had 6 children.

Phebe can be found in the 1851 Census of Salt Fleet, Wentworth Co., Canada West (Ontario), the 1861 census of Bayham Twp. Elgin Co., Ontario, Canada, the 1870 Census of Fremont Twp. Tuscola Co. Mich., with her father's family. The 1880 and 1900 Census finds her in Rich, Lapeer Co., MI. with her husband and family. She is a resident of Fremont Twp., Tuscola Co., MI for the 1910 and 1920 Census.

According to her g-granddaughter she went by Phebe. [2011 conversation] Engravers license on memorial. Great Grandmother was Phebe Thornton. Pheby on her marriage license. She wrote her name as Phebe in a document written about her daughter Martha "Mattie" E Chaplin's death.

Obituary:

Pheobe Clink, daughter of the late John and Catherine Clink, died at her home in Mayville on Wednesday, August 4, 1937 at 11:45 a.m.

She was one of a family of eleven children, all of whom have preceded her in death but one surviving sister, Mrs. Edith Clink of Mayville.

She was born April 10, 1848 near Hamilton, Canada. At the age of eighteen she came to Michigan to join parents who resided on the James Wells farm, one-half mile west of Mayville. She has always lived in the vicinity of Mayville.

On December 4, 1867 she was united in marriage ot Harvey S. Chaplin, now deceased. After their marriage they moved on a farm in Rich township where they lived for many years.

To this union were born six children. Elbert and Mattie preceded her in death many years ago. The surviving children are Mrs. Estella Schell of Fostoria, Frank Chaplin of Hadley, Jeff Chaplin of Mayville, Jerome Chaplin of Flint and one step son, Henry Chaplin of Detroit.

She also leaves to mourn her loss seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. B. McMinn Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Church, with burial in West Deerfield Cemetery."
