Benjamin Franklin Davis was the son of Benjamin and Tabitha Rose Davis, a planter in Brunswick County, VA. He and his siblings -- William, Elizabeth (wife of John Brown), John, Martha (wife of Littleberry Baugh), Henry, Thomas and Merritt Davis -- all were name din their father's 1817 will, as well as in subsequent property settlements.
This Benjamin F. Davis removed to Oglethorpe County, GA, and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Georgia Militia during the War of 1812. He was married on May 28, 1816, to Martha, daughter of Benjamin Taylor of Oglethorpe County, GA. In 1818, Benjamin and Martha Taylor Davis moved to Autauga County, Alabama.
Davis was elected to the Alabama State Legislature about 1828, and served two terms. At one time he was the tax collector of Autauga County.
Benjamin and Martha Davis were the parents of:
1. Mary Elizabeth (married Cary Newman)
2. Merritt Warren
3. Benjamin Franklin, a physician (married Elizabeth Frith)
4. Louisiana Caroline (married John Barlow)
5. Thomas Asbury, a physician (married Dora Motley)

Perhaps I should have added this when sending information...
I am not a descendant of Benjamin F. Davis, but of his brother, Henry Davis. This Davis family is well documented in Surry and Brunswick County, VA, as well as in Bedford County, TN, and in Autauga County, AL. I am merely trying to help other distant relatives who may be searching.
