Timothy was the son of Moses and Fannie Cheatham Grimes. He married Nannie, the daughter of William and Emily Baker McWilliams, on September 18, 1890 in Jessamine County. After their children were raised, the couple moved to Lexington. The couple's marriage ended in divorce, c. 1937.
He married the widow Betty Carter Courtney. They were the parents of a daughter, Jean Grimes. Mr. Grimes was employed as farmer and as a gardener. He was a patient at the Fayette County Infirmary when he passed away.
