Her father was George Washington Long and her mother, Deborah "Debbie" Janettie (Phillips) Long.
It was a very memorable experience when they moved to Washington Territory. About 1883 Belle traveled with her parents in a covered wagon pulled by a team of two horses. They were delayed 3 months at Soda Springs, Caribou County, Idaho, when her father came down with "mountain fever" and was very ill. Then a team of their horses died. With no money left, a kind man in Idaho sold her dad a team of mules to be paid for when he had recovered financially.
They homesteaded in Bluestem, Lincoln Co., WA. Here Belle attended the Lower Lords Valley School.
She married Thomas Edward Talkington on Christmas Day, 25 December 1894 Moscow, Lincoln County, WA. Their home was a one room cabin in what was called the Lord's Valley.
1900 they are enumerated at Moscow, WA where he is farming.
She moved into the town of Harrington, WA when her husband died.
She was a member of the Baptist Church; the Magnolia Rebekah Lodge; and Harrington Woman's Club.
She had a heart attack and died in the Spokane Sacred Heart Hospital. Her headstone is near this beautiful Talkington Monument.
