He married Mary Yarosh before 1889. On May 31, 1889, they survived a catastrophic flood in Johnstown when the South Fork Dam failed 14 miles North of the town. He and Mary remained in Johnstown until after the birth of their only son, John Mathew on July 28, 1889.
It is not known when he changed his name to Osko.
The family arrived in Lorain, Ohio around 1895. For a few years he may have operated a beer garden. Then he went to work for the Lorain Water Works as a machinist. After Mary (Yarosh) died, he was married for a second time to Elizabeth Zelonus, after 1920. Elizabeth died after November 2, 1936.
In 1920, he lived with his only son, John in Black River Twp (precinct D), Lorain, Ohio. He always took long walks. He died on February 15, 1949 at the corner of 34th and Lex. Avenue, Lorain, Ohio while taking a walk. He died of a Coronary Thrombosis. He is interred at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Black River Twp of Lorain County, Ohio.
