Willie Poppe, 84, Lifelong Resident, Dies
Funeral services for Willie John Poppe,84,were held Thursday afternoon,Dec. 10 at Hubbard Funeral Home,with burial in the New Bielau Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of the weimar area,Mr.Poppe died at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday,Dec. 9,at Youens Memorial Hospital,where he had been a patient five weeks and had.undergone surgery.He had McQuirter,who is blind,had put years.[sic]
Born Jan. 30,1886 at New Bielau,he was a son of Henry and Meta. Ehlers Poppe.He married Miss Wilhelmina Mehrens on Feb. 27,1913,and the following year they moved to the Osage community,where they have lived since.Mrs.Poppe died In September of 1963.
Mr.Poppe is survived by one son,Fritz W. Poppe of weimar;an adopted daughter Mrs.Paulina Mehrens Hiller of Victoria;five grandchildren;two brothers,Emil and Henry Poppe both of Weimar;and one sister,Mrs.Otto Thumann of weimar.A son Adolph,died June 22,1968.
Pallbearers were Arnold Balzer,Adolph Thumann,Henry Rutledge,Lawrence Muehr,Robert Srkala,and Aaron German.
