In attempting to swing around the other side of the fence, the boy lost his balance and fell off the dock at the boat landing.
Ezra Young drowned before assistance arrived. His body was in the water about 20 minutes before it was recovered. Dr. William Bemus was called. The physician worked faithfully for one hour, but he was unable to resuscitate Ezra.
Undertaker Partridge was summoned and carried the boy to his funeral home.

The funeral of Ezra Young the 10-year-old who drowned yesterday was held today at his family home at 701 W. Eighth Street, Jamestown, New York at 3:30 PM.
Rev. Alfred Dickson officiated the service. Music was provided by Misses Minnie and Maude Hegeman. The pall bearers were Oscar Wilcox, Henry Elder, Ray Peterson and Henry Chadwick.
The attendance was large and there was a profusion of flowers. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Semer Banner and Mr. and Mrs. Robbins from Gerry, NY.
Ezra left his parents, Angus and Mary (Hibbard) Young, his sister Hattie and a brother, Thomas.
