Obituary of Dr. J. A. Kelly
Dr. J. A. Kelly, who was pharmacist at the Peters drug store during the summer of 1914, passed away at his home in Oshkosh, Neb., Oct 21, aged 31 years, 7 months and 29 days. His illness was of ten days duration from Spanish influenza followed by pneumonia.
Dr. Kelly was born Feb 22, 1887, at Raymond, Kansas. He was educated in his native state and graduated in pharmacy from the university of Kansas in 1910. He followed pharmacy for a few years and in 1914 was employed in that capacity at the Peter's Pharmacy in Randolph. On June 19, 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Meyer of this city and they moved to Omaha where Dr. Kelly completed his medical studies at the Creighton University and graduated in 1917. He began his medical practice at Oshkosh and in little more than a year built up a good business.
Dr. Kelly was a quiet unassuming young man. He was a good physician, prompt in his affairs and enjoyed a good practice. He was esteemed by all who knew him. There was so much sickness in his territory that even when he should have been in bed he thought it his duty to minister to the sick and worked day and night until forced to his bed. In his death Oshkosh met a distinct loss.
His wife and little son were taken seriously ill with influenza at the same time he was, and it was for a time thought there was no hope for any of them. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer of this city were summoned to the bedside of their daughter and son-in-law as well as Miss Frances Meyer, who has been a student at Omaha. They did what they could.
Deceased leaves his wife and baby son, besides his parents and other relatives.
The funeral was held at Oshkosh Oct. 22 and burial made there.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Kelly and son, Howard, his mother and brother; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer and daughter Frances of Randolph.

Note: Last name spelled Kelly and Kelley.
