Glynn Thomas Gilbert was the son of Frank Oliver Gilbert Sr. and Ruth Pearl "Holden" Easterling Gilbert.
Glynn Thomas Gilbert was in the Army Air Corp. as an Engineer & Turret gunner on a B 26 Bomber. He flew out of England in the 1st of the daylight raids. There were 36 planes in his squadron & only a few returned. His plane was shot down in the Battle of the Bulge, Dec 24th, 1944. He was taken prisoner after parachuting from his doomed plane. The family heard from the War Dept. in January 1945, that he was listed as Missing in Action. They learned in February that he was officially a POW. He was only held as a prisoner for 4 or 5 months , always moving to out run the Russian. At one point he was held in a train cattle car for 7 days without food & only 1 drink of water. He was finally liberated when American troops overtook his location and defeated his prison guards.
