Mrs. Bjerke died at her home in Newburgh township about 1:30 Sunday morning. She had been ill for several years, and for some months confined to her bed. A few weeks ago she was able to be up and around and her condition seemed greatly improved. Last Friday she had visited her sister at Northwood and seemed to be in good spirits and was apparently feeling quite well. Saturday afternoon she became seriously ill and death came a few hours later.
Born in Newburgh Township January 11, 1884 Mrs. Bjerke was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arne Bye. She attended the schools of Newburgh and grew to womanhood there. On April 13, 1903 she married Mr. Bjerke, and the marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. Tollefson.
Survivors include the husband, two children, Mrs. August Peterson and John Bjerke; five brothers and six sisters. They are Carl, Jorgen, Alfred, Carelius and Olve Bye, Mrs. Knute Aasen, Mrs. Henry Brenna, Mrs. Fred Enger, all of Hatton; Mrs. Joe Keller and Mrs. Howard Ostlie of Northwood and Mrs. Alfred Gallock of Toledo, Ohio. She also leaves four grandchildren.
Mrs. Bjerke was a kind and loving wife, mother and sister and will be greatly missed by her dear ones. She was an active member of the Goose River Church and an ardent worker in the Ladies Aid of that church.
Pallbearers at the services tomorrow will be the five brothers of the deceased and a son-in-law, August Peterson. Honorary pallbearers include Oscar Eide, John Mark, Alfred Sletten, Louis Larson, E.O. Erickson and Erick Ramstad. – Hatton Free Press, July 4, 1935.
