When Peter was born, his mother's family had been living in Mexico since 1890 and his father's family had been there since 1896. His parents had married in Mexico. The families were there because many were Mormon polygamists. Peter's parents, Peter and Lois, were not polygamists, however.
In 1912, Peter's parents and siblings, all extended family members, and many other foreigners, were driven from Mexico by the Mexican revolutionaries. Peter's family fled to Hachita, New Mexico where they lived for a time. They then moved to Columbus, New Mexico, where they lived until 1916, when the town was attached by Pancho Villa, a Mexican revolutionary. The family then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Peter married Ruth Leona Person October 26, 1924 in Evanston, Uinta County, Wyoming.
In the early 1930s they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Ruth's family had their roots.
