Birth: Jan. 31, 1898
Preble County
Ohio, USA
Death: Jan. 1, 1972
Ann Arbor
Washtenaw County
Michigan, USA

Chester was the son of Sampson William and Laura Alice (Lewis) Cloyd of Darke County, Ohio.

Chester married Helen Genevieve(Leach)Cloyd 9 Sep 1922 Ecorse, Wayne County, Michigan. Helen was from Brooklyn, so it is a mystery to me as to how exactly they met. Helen's little sister, Marion, and Chester's older brother, Nelson, were married just two years later. After Helen's death, Chester married a Blanche and then Helen M.(Yohasz) Smith.

All of Chester's children were with his first wife, Helen (Leach) Cloyd. They had three girls: Marion G. (Wolnosky) Cloyd, who died in 2000 in Redford; Alice Joan Cloyd (Patterson)(Engelbrich), who died in 1966 in Detroit; and the middle daughter, who is still living as of 2011, so I won't write her name here.

Chester joined the Navy and was stationed at the United States Navy Reserve Forces Mobilization Station: Washington, D. C. Enlistment Date: 14 Oct 1918; Assigns 15 Oct 1918 to 11 Nov 1918. AS 28 days. Released 31 Dec 1918. Honorable Dis. Lack of Funds. I'm not sure what his exact duties were. Before he went into the Navy, he worked for U.S. Railway Mail.

Chester attended the Teaford School, a one room school house in German Township, Darke County, Ohio. After working for as a railroad postal clerk for a short time, he completed an accounting program at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. After looking over some of his textbooks and notes, I have concluded that he completed a solid liberal arts program in addition to his specialized training.

He was working in accounting by the time he got married in 1922, and he continued in this capacity for the automobile industry in the Detroit area for many years. He joined the MACPA in 1942 and was active on several committees from 1943-1958.

Chester is interred with his first wife, Helen, and their daughter, Marion. His daughter, Alice, is close by as well.
