Resident of Green Bank Drowned in Mullica River / Believed to Have Been Lost in Fog, Falling From Row Boat
Date: October 13, 1937
Page: 9
Column: 6
The body of Charles Garten, 53, was found floating in the Mullica river at Pine Creek, near Lower Bank, on Wednesday, by his nephew, Rodney Koster, who with others had been searching for the missing man for nearly a week. Garten is believed to have been lost in the heavy fog and fallen from his row-boat while returning from visiting friends at the Sweet Water Casino late the previous Thursday night. He was a former Hammonton resident, but for some time had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Leon A. Koster, along the Mullica river. He was employed at the State Forest Nursery. Rev. Charles L. Ebell, of Elwood, conducted services at the Oak Grove cemetery in Hammonton on Friday morning. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Harry Ford, of Collingswood, and Mrs. Koster, of Green Bank.
