Fairy Del Shreves (middle name appears on Iowa State records as Dell but family shows Del), was born Dec 21, 1883 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattami County, Iowa. Her parents were Daniel Kidd Shreves b. 1858 and Mary Henry Holder Shreves b. 1863 d. 1941.

Fairy was the second born of five children. Edith b. Jul 23,1880, Fairy Dell, Juliette b. Feb 11, 1886, Daniel Kidd Shreves b. Jul 27, 1888, and Edward Douglas b. Dec 15, 1890. All her siblings were born in Council Bluffs, Iowa and the family appears in the 1895 Iowa Census when she was about 11 or 12.

Fairy married Elza Ury March 13, 1903 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a marriage that lasted 53 years until Elza's death in 1956. They had 6 children; Fay Berniece b. Dec 8, 1903, Edward Arthur b. Feb 13 1908, Mary Ann b. Dec 27, 1909, Della Mae b. Mar 9, 1915, Robert Elza b. Jul 16, 1916, and Daniel Kidd b. Nov 4 1921.

Elza and Fairy owned and operated Ury's Store in Chapman, Nebraska, raised their children there, and lived in that town for the remainder of their married years together. The store was important to the community for general supplies, post office, soda fountain, and a place where prescriptions could be filled.

Fairy was full of fun and had an incredible wit. A program or skit was more humorous, more entertaining, if she was a part of it. She was active in the community of Chapman in the PTA, Women's Society, and Eastern Star Chapter of which she was honored as a 50 year member in 1963.

Fairy was an expert at whistling and entertained friends and family with her talent. She was known for her baked goods, especially angel food cakes and butter horns, and always had time to entertain and visit with friends. In her golden years she still dressed in formal, floor length gowns for special meetings of the Eastern Star Chapter, and under those flowing skirts were hidden comfy tennis shoes.

She lived a full life and even though her body failed, she retained her keen mind and ready wit. Fairy passed away at age 91 in a skilled nursing facility in Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska. Her last words to her daughter Della at her bedside were, "I'm not afraid of dying but I hate to leave you kids". A loving mother to the end.
