My father, Percy J. Marshall, was born in the Madison Twp. coal mining town called Chickasaw; and died in East Franklin Twp., at the Armstrong County Hospital.
Percy J. Marshall, age 88, of Kittanning, PA, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 21, 1921 in Chickasaw, PA, the son of Clifford W. and Florence B. (Williams) Marshall.
Percy was a 1940 graduate of Kittanning High School. He then served during peacetime as a Sergeant in the US Army, from 1940 to 1941. His career totaled 45 years working for Allegheny River Mining Company, Shawmut Development, Pittsburgh and Shawmut Coal Company and retiring in 1986 from Pittsburgh and Shawmut Railroad Company as the Vice President of Purchasing.
He was a long term member of Grace Brethren Church of West Kittanning, serving on the church building committee and finance committee, where he was the chairman for many years. He enjoyed participating in the Gospel Light Sunday School Class.
Percy was a past member of the Purchasing Management Association of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Railway Club, Armstrong County Hunting and Fishing Club and the Marienville Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; Richard, Clifford and Twyde Marshall; and his sister Maxine Plants Straight.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty M. (Shankle) Marshall, with whom he shared nearly 67 years of marriage; his son, the Rev. Kelly Marshall of Boardman, OH; daughter Karen S. Hawk and husband Russell of Kittanning; granddaughter Dr. Jennifer Marshall and grandsons Adam Marshall and wife Katina, Jared Hawk and wife Holly, Matthew Hawk and wife Emily and Joshua Hawk; great-grandchildren, Eli and Tristan Marshall, Caleb Hawk and Cadence Hawk.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 7-9 on Monday, May 31, 2010 and from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.
Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Grace Brethren Church, 215 Arthur St., West Kittanning, from 10 AM until the time of funeral service at 11 AM with the Rev. Mark Cornwell and Percy's son, the Rev. Kelly Marshall co-officiating.
Burial will follow at the Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.
In honor of Percy, contributions may be made in his memory to the Grace Brethren Church, 215 Arthur St., Kittanning, PA 16201.
