| Birth: | Dec. 2, 1821 Concord (Cabarrus County) Cabarrus County North Carolina, USA | | Death: | Feb. 3, 1895 Charlotte Mecklenburg County North Carolina, USA |  Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. He attended the University of North Carolina, graduating in the class of 1842. He then practiced law in Concord, North Carolina and served in the State General Assembly in 1848 and 1850. He was a Presidential Elector in the critical election of 1860. Barringer entered Confederate service as the Captain of Company F ("The Cabarrus Rangers"), 1st Regiment North Carolina Cavalry. He was promoted to Major in August of 1863, and by June 1st, 1864 he had been appointed to the rank of Brigadier General. He led a brigade of cavalry in the division of Major General W.H.F. Lee in the Army of Northern Virginia until the end of the war. After the war, he was active in Republican politics in his native state. He was a brother-in-law to Confederate generals D.H.
