A graduate of Albany Law School, he was admitted to bar in June, 1898 and opened an office in Concord in May 1899. Elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, he served from 1901 to 1903 becoming the youngest member on the committees on judiciary and liquor laws. He moved to California where he served as harbor commissioner and was instrumental in building up the inner and outer harbors. These efforts continued after his election as the Mayor of Los Angeles, a position he held from September 5, 1916 to July 1, 1919. He subsequently became the director and vice-president of First National Bank of Wilmington. (bio by: Thom Painter)
