Thelma McPherson, 94, Abilene School teacher for 32 years, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Abilene First Baptist Church with, Dr. Phil Christopher Officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by North's funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Ms. McPherson was born in Johnson County and moved to Abilene in 1917. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1930 and master's degree in 1948, both from Hardin-Simmons University. She taught school for a total of 40 years and was a teacher at Seminole, Big Lake and Abilene High School. She began Teaching English at Jefferson Junior High when it opened in 1942 and retired in 1969. she was a member of the Hendrick Medical Center Auxiliary for many years and First Baptist Church.

Survivors included several nieces and nephews, including Dr. William King of Abilene. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m today in the funeral home.
