Grantley Mellen Whitford

Grantley Mellen Whitford, a well-known resident of the county died Thursday morning, August 9th. On the 3rd of July while working on the Masters School House he fell from the top of the building, when the wall gave way, causing two ribs and a wrist to be broken. He was a patient sufferer for ten days and was thought to be on the road to recovery until Thursday evening when his heart weakened and he could no longer resist the inevitable.

Mr. Whitford was born in Idaho Springs, Colorado, June 22nd, 1865. At the age of nine years he came with his parents to Nebraska living in and close to Arlington the remainder of his life.

He was married to Dora Marshall September 24th, 1890.

The funeral services were held at the home Sunday August 12th. Rev. Bashford and Rev. Hammel officiated. Mrs. Eula Brewster and Miss Genevieve Newcomb furnished the music, Mrs. Brewster as soloist and Miss Newcomb at the piano.

The interment was made in the Arlington Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Messrs. Wm. Ludwig, Wm. Roberts, Byron Masters, Frank Brown, J. D. Newcomb and H. L Crapenhoft.
