While putting a roof on a wood shed in the rear of his home, on Washington street in East Point, Thursday afternoon, John D Burks, aged 55 years, and a deaf mute, lost his balance and fell to the ground, sustaining injuries from which he died at 12 o'clock Thursday night.
The accident is supposed to have occurred about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, as Mr Burks was found lying upon the ground in an unconscious condition shortly after that hour. Dr George C Trimble, of East Point, was hastily summoned to attend the injured man but in spite of the efforts of the physician he died a few hours later without regaining consciousness.
Mr Burks is survived by his wife, who is also deaf and dumb, and by four daughters. The family had been living in East Point but a few months. The remains were taken in charge by Harry G Poole & Co and will be shipped to Cass Station for interment Friday afternoon.
