Betty Bruce Pickett (Marie Elizabeth Guthrie), born December 29, 1925 in Liberty, TX, died in indomitable strength on Monday, April 23, 2007 after a long bout with Alzheimer's Disease.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, April 25 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty with Rev. David Edwards celebrant. A Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24 from 6-8 P.M. at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis in Liberty with a Christian Vigil Service at 7 P.M. Rite of Committal will be at the Liberty Catholic Cemetery.
Betty was the daughter of the late Tillie Violet (Lulie) Bush of Galveston and Cmdr. Baxter Hunter Bruce, USN. She attended the University of Texas and was an Alpha Delta Pi. In 1947, she married Ernest Williams (Bill) Pickett. A feature writer and gossip columnist for the Liberty Vindicator, she never met a stranger. After Bill Pickett's death in 1987, she married Forrest Eugene Guthrie who also predeceased her. She was the epitome of Auntie Mane-dull was not in her vocabulary. Ms. Betty is survived by her children, Ernie Pickett, III, Richard N. Pickett and Jeffery B. Pickett; her beloved grandchildren, Ernie, IV, Richard (Rick), Jr. and her precious Suzanna Ewing Pickett. She also leaves surviving her great-grandchildren, Madalyn and Caiden Pickett, the wives and progeny of her beloved brothers, Richard Hunter (Jr.), Bruce and George Ewing Bruce, and special friends, Patsy Mullins and Joan Jeffery.
