Avis Thelma Hoskins, 89, died at Portland Nov 12. She was born Jan 25, 1913 at Bellaire, Kan., the sixth of nine children born to Archie and Rosa Schoonover. She attended school in Courtland and Montrose. She married Loren Hoskins Dec 22, 1928 at Mankato.
Following their marriage, they lived in Guide Rock, where Avis cared for home and family. She worked as a nurse's aid at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital and at Hastings and was a custodian in Peru.
They moved to Portland where they served as foster grandparents from 1981 to 1991. Loren died in March 1991.
Avis moved to Grand Island, where she worked as a foster grandmother for 10 years. She returned to Portland to be with her family. She was member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed crocheting and reading.
She is survived by her children; Ted Hoskins, Portland, Barbara Bright, Royal, Neb.; Dick Hoskins, Minden; Carol Whittington, Portland; Mary Ellen Schneider, Clackamas, Ore.; Donald Hoskins, Denver, and Vikki Whited, Seaside, Ore.; 25 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Avis Hoskins were held Saturday at Crossroads Church of Christ, Portland, Ore., and a family committal at Douglass Pioneer Cemetery, Troutdale, Ore.
