Man Dies After Fall From Runaway Team

George Garman, 58, Mechanicsburg R.D. 1, died last night in the Carlisle Hospital from injuries suffered earlier at Mechanicsburg R.D.1, when he was thrown from a wagon when a team of horses ran off.

He suffered shock, fractures of both arms, a punctured lung, the hospital reported. Dr. E.A. Haegele, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County Coroner is investigating.

George C. Garman, 58, Dies in Hospital After Accident

George C. Garman, 58, of Mechanicsburg, R.D. 1, suffered fatal injuries yesterday afternoon when he fell from a farm wagon as it descended the steep mountain road at Sterrett's Gap.

He suffered fractures of both arms, internal injuries and puncture wounds of the face and head and died about 5 p.m. yesterday in Carlisle Hospital where he had been taken in the Community Ambulance.

Mr. Garman and his son, George C. Garman, Jr., had driven from their farm, which is located north of New Kingstown not far from the North Mountain, to Thoman's saw mill at Sterrett's Gap. On the return trip a brake shoe on the wagon broke as the team descended the Gap hill. The horses bolted. The father leaped from the wagon, lost his balance and fell heavily to the road.

A Son in England

He was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church, Mechanicsburg.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Emma F. Garman; three daughters, Annie, at home; Mrs. George Hoffmaster, Mechanicsburg, R.D. 2, and Mrs. Dale Rynard; three sons, John W., who is with the U.S. Army in England; Harry E., Mechanicsburg, R.D. 1, and George, at home; 11 grandchildren, a brother, Benjamin A., Wetonka, S.D., and four sisters, Mrs. Peter Bricker and Mrs. Christ Eshelman, both of Mechanicsburg, R.D.; Mrs. John Hess, Carlisle, and Mrs. Frank Bare, Mechanicsburg.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Myers funeral home, Mechanicsburg, and at 2 p.m. in the Brethren in Christ Church, Mechanicsburg. Burial will be in Trindle Spring Cemetery. Friends may call at the Myers parlors on Monday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
