Margaret Davis was born in East Virginia in 1737, daughter of William and Anna Beeler Davis. She married John Sheley in 1756 and bore 11 children. Margaret and her family lived in Frederick County, Virginia from 1756 until 1807. Then at the age of 70 she and her husband sold their lands in Viginia and moved to Greene County, Ohio then only a military district of the United States. They bought 700 odd acres of land and began farming in Ohio. Over the next few years they deeded most of the land to those children that had come west with them. Margaret's husband died in 1821 and she followed in 1834. The are buried in the family cemetery on their new homestead.
