Mrs Ida Wells Evans, widow of the late Chesley D. Evans, died at her home in Marion Sunday night, March 20, after an illness of several years. Funeral services conducted by her pastor, Dr. Peter Stokes of the First Methodist Church were held at the graveside. She is buried beside her husband and her only daughter, Miss Fannie Evans, who died four years ago.

She is survived by two sons, Leon Evans of New Orleans and Wells Evans of Marion, and two brothers, C. P. Wells of Bennettsville and Claude Wells of Florida.

MARION - Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Wells Evans who died Sunday night, were held in the Methodist Church Cemetery Monday afternoon, conducted by Dr. Peter Stokes, pastor of the First Methodist Church.

Mrs. Evans was born in Columbia in January 1855, the daughter of Jacob Wells and Fannie McConnell Wells of Columbia. She was a graduate of Columbia College.

In 1877 the family moved to Marion and on December 9, 1880, Miss Ida Wells was married to Chesley D. Evans Jr., who died January 18, 1892. To them were born three children, two sons, Leon and Wells, and one daughter, Fannie, who died four years ago.

Mrs. Evans had been in declining health for four years, and practically helpless for some months.

She is survived by her two sons, the youngest of whom has lived with and cared for his mother devotedly. Two brothers also survive, C. P. Wells of Bennettsville and Claud Wells of Florida.
